Nothing shows on the projector
Short answer: Check three things in order: 1) the computer is set to extend (not mirror) and the Output window has been dragged onto the projector, then Present/Preview and Fullscreen clicked; 2) the projector is on the right input (for example HDMI 1); 3) the cable works and is no longer than 50 feet of HDMI.
1. Put the Output window on the projector
- Make sure the computer extends to the projector instead of mirroring. See Extend your display to a projector.
- Drag the Output window onto the projector, usually by moving it fully off the left or right edge of your screen.
- Click the green Preview or Present button.
- Click Fullscreen.
2. Select the right input on the projector
- Use the projector's remote to cycle through inputs.
- Match the port your cable is in (often labeled HDMI 1 or HDMI 2).
3. Check the cable
- HDMI longer than about 50 feet, or low-quality cable, can lose signal or not be detected.
- Over 50 feet, use CAT6 with an HDMI adapter on each end. See Which cable to use.
- Try another cable or port to rule out a fault.
- USB-C or Thunderbolt adapters: try a different adapter.
Still blank?
- Mac, black screen after Fullscreen: see Mac projector goes black in full screen.
- Restart the computer with the projector connected and on.
- Use Tools → Test Patterns: if the grid appears, the connection works and the issue is in the show window.
