Mac projector goes black in full screen

Short answer: Turn on Displays have separate Spaces: Apple menu → System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Mission Control. Then restart the Mac. With this setting off, the projector can go black when you drag the Output window to it and click Fullscreen.

Applies to: StagePlayer 2.x on macOS · Last reviewed: October 17, 2026

Steps

  1. Apple menu → System Settings.
  2. Open Desktop & Dock.
  3. Scroll to Mission Control.
  4. Turn on Displays have separate Spaces.
  5. Restart the Mac.
  6. Open StagePlayer, drag the Output window to the projector, click Present/Preview, then Fullscreen.

Also check

  • In System Settings → Displays, the projector is an extended display, not a mirror, and the Mac's screen is the main display.
  • You didn't click Fullscreen while both windows were on the Mac's screen.
