Playback lags, stutters or freezes

Short answer: Check that your computer meets the system requirements and isn't on the known-incompatible list. Then close other apps, restart, and try Application Settings → Advanced → Enable Lite Mode. On older hardware, also try Enable Legacy Rendering. Neither is guaranteed to fix it.

Try in order

  1. Check the computer against the system requirements. Computers with Intel Iris graphics, Microsoft Surface and some Lenovo, HP and Acer laptops are known to struggle.
  2. Restart the computer and open only StagePlayer.
  3. Plug in the power and turn off battery-saving modes.
  4. Turn on Lite Mode: Application Settings → Advanced → Enable Lite Mode.
  5. Older hardware: also try Enable Legacy Rendering in the same place.
  6. Check zoom and display mode: zooming can affect transitions. See Outputs, display mode and zoom.
  7. Update StagePlayer from broadwaymedia.com/downloads.

During a show

Use Jump to Next rather than waiting on long loops, and avoid Jump To between unrelated cues, which can cause a visible jump.
