StagePlayer 3.0 beta: what's changing
Short answer: StagePlayer 3.0 is in beta (v3.0.0-beta.4). It replaces Next and Jump to Next with a single GO button, simplifies blackout and skipping, and adds a setup check, in-app updates with rollback, and access-key sign-in. Shows set up in 2.0 keep working in 2.0, but 3.0 isn't backwards compatible with them. Use the 2.x release for performances unless you've tested 3.0.
New and changed in 3.0
- One GO button replaces Next and Jump to Next.
- Simpler blackout controls and easier disabling or skipping of cues.
- Interactive walkthroughs, designed for a 10-minute install and a 5-minute learning session.
- Retime scenes and hard cuts.
- Setup check that warns about frame rate, low storage or an overdue restart.
- Virtual outputs across up to three projectors, and a Mask Creator.
- Pin-point zoom, in-app updates with rollback, interface language choice and access-key sign-in.
- QLab integration in supported configurations (incoming port 53001, outgoing port 53000).
- Built-in keyboard shortcuts: GO (Space), Blackout (Shift+B), Pause (Shift+P), plus custom shortcuts.
Should I switch?
| Situation | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Your show is already set up and edited in 2.x | Stay on 2.x for this production. 3.0 isn't backwards compatible with 2.0 productions. |
| You're starting a new production with time to test | You can try the beta from broadwaymedia.com/downloads; run a full rehearsal before relying on it. |
| Tech week or performances are close | Stay on 2.x. |
Most articles in this help center describe 2.x. In 3.0, where an article says Next or Jump to Next, use GO.
Moving to Stage Studio
In 3.0 you can choose Edit in Stage Studio to open your production in Stage Studio; edits show up in StagePlayer.
