What alpha, beta and other status labels mean
Short answer: Each Show Goods product shows a status. In development means it isn't available yet. Alpha means early testing with limited features. Beta means it's usable but still changing. Available or Launched means it's a full release.
| Status | What to expect | Products with this status |
|---|---|---|
| In development | Being built. You may be able to sign up for updates, but you can't use it yet. | Ensemble Supply |
| Alpha | Early version. Features are missing or may change, and you should expect bugs. Don't depend on it for a performance without a backup plan. | Proscenio |
| Beta | Usable and close to complete, but features, menus and steps may still change between versions. Test it in rehearsal before you rely on it in a performance. | Stage Studio; StagePlayer 3.0 |
| Available / Launched | Released for general use. | StagePlayer 2.x; Broadway Quality |
Good practice with alpha and beta software
- Install updates before tech week, not during it.
- Run the full show in rehearsal on the computer you'll perform with.
- Keep your previous working setup until the new version has been through a dress rehearsal.
- Report bugs through the product's feedback channel. For Stage Studio, use the feedback form.
