Operator controls: Next, Jump to Next and Blackout Now
Short answer: Next lets the current video finish its loop, then moves on. Jump to Next moves on immediately with a 2-second crossfade and is best for accurate timing. Blackout Now fades to black in 2 seconds at any time and is meant for emergencies; add planned blackouts as cues instead.
How cues play
Each cue has two parts:
- Action video: the unique moment (for example, fairy dust fading out). Plays once.
- Loop video: plays after the action video and repeats until the operator advances.
The cue sheet tells you when to advance.
The three controls
| Control | When it changes | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Next (labeled Start for the first cue) | After the current video reaches its natural end | Relaxed changes where exact timing doesn't matter |
| Jump to Next | Immediately, with a 2-second crossfade | Hitting a line or music cue precisely; catching up |
| Blackout Now | Immediately, 2-second fade to black | Emergencies only |
Example
A cue's video is 5 seconds long; the night sky fades in during those 5 seconds.
- Click Jump to Next at 1 second: StagePlayer crossfades to the next cue over about 2 seconds.
- Click Next at 4 seconds: the last second plays, then the next cue starts.
